Dr. Monica Reintjes, PhD, LPC - Latina Female Therapist

About Dr. Monica Reintjes, PhD, LPC

I’m a bilingual therapist, educational psychologist and consultant, and coach practicing virtually and in-person in Alexandria, Virginia.

My goal as your therapist and coach is to provide a safe place for you find connection and solutions; I’ll help you gain insight into your life, relationships and experiences, so you can feel better faster, and reduce feelings of overwhelm.

I partner with adults from a variety of backgrounds, and especially love supporting Latino and military clients. As a Spanish-speaking Latina, I know firsthand the variability, diversity, and nuances of being Latino in America; I love being able to bring this understanding to therapy and coaching sessions. As a military spouse, I understand the stigma around seeking mental health services, and want to be part of the change for military members and their families.

Prior to working in private practice, my clinical training experience included: research on suicidality in psychiatric hospitals; social-emotional programming development at the district level; mental health-tailored trainings for school counselors and behavioral health social workers at the district level; outpatient mental health therapy; and many years at a Latino-based non-profit mental health agency.

In addition to being a therapist and coach, I develop and implement mental health programming for K-12 schools, including giving presentations on suicidality, trauma, culture and other topics. I’ve been published in numerous papers.

I graduated from Avila University with dual degrees: a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Human Behavior, and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. I completed my doctorate in Educational Psychology (development and learning track) from the University of Kansas.

When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, exploring coffee shops, making cheese boards, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
